The Hongqi HS7 is a mid-to-large luxury SUV under the Hongqi marque and the brand's first C-segment SUV, originally launched in 2019. The current line-up comprises a 2.0T petrol variant (with 48V mild hybrid), a 3.0T V6 supercharged petrol variant, and a 2.0T plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, alongside ongoing exports to overseas markets including Russia and the United Arab Emirates. In its domestic market, the petrol model is priced from RM255,800 to RM459,800 (depending on trim and model year), while the PHEV variant carries an official retail price of RM290,800 to RM345,800, with substantial dealer discounts on offer. Measuring 4,995 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall with a 2,920 mm wheelbase, the HS7 PHEV opened for pre-orders in July 2024 before officially launching in August 2024. As Hongqi's strategic core offering in the large SUV segment, the HS7 embodies a "Chinese luxury" ethos, combining the marque's top-tier in-house engineering and technologies.
The Hongqi HS7 adopts the brand's latest signature design philosophy, fronted by a waterfall-inspired grille and a central red illumination strip that serves as a modern interpretation of the iconic Hongqi emblem. The commanding front fascia combines a large vertical chrome grille with split LED headlamps, while the signature red bonnet strip extends down into the grille to create an unmistakable road presence. Along the sides, a dual shoulder-line profile takes inspiration from a banner rippling in the wind, accompanied by D-pillar chrome garnish representing the "past, present, and future", while traditional pull-style door handles are retained over flush pop-out units for greater everyday practicality. Around the rear, full-width LED taillights take cues from traditional Chinese roof eaves, mirroring the front red motif when illuminated. Inside, the HS7 features a driver-centric, wing-style wraparound dashboard layered with soft-touch materials, metallic trims, leather upholstery, and genuine wood veneer. Premium Nappa leather and Alcantara appointments with diamond-pattern quilting deliver an upscale, tactile cabin ambience. Alongside the classic Graphite Black interior, new two-tone options—including Danxia Brown/Graphite Black and Floating Light Brown/Quiet Grey—are offered to cater to diverse tastes.
The Hongqi HS7 is offered with both internal combustion and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The pure-petrol range features a 2.0T four-cylinder engine (CA4GC20TD-35) and a 3.0T V6 supercharged unit (CA6GV30TD). The 3.0T V6 pushes out 248 kW (approx. 337 PS) and 445 Nm of torque via an Aisin 8-speed automatic gearbox; the 2.0T mill features a 48V mild hybrid system producing 185 kW (approx. 252 PS) and 380 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The PHEV variant pairs a 2.0T petrol engine with electric motors; the engine alone makes 120 kW and 260 Nm, with the 2WD model utilising a front-mounted single motor for a total system output of 288 kW, while the 4WD model adds a rear motor to raise total system output to 358 kW. The PHEV is mated to a dedicated 1-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 8.8 seconds for the 2WD and 6.8 seconds for the 4WD. Powering the PHEV is a 20.1 kWh CATL-sourced ternary lithium battery, yielding a CLTC pure electric range of 125 km (2WD) and 100 km (4WD), with a combined CLTC cruising range exceeding 1,200 km. Fuel consumption under battery-depleted conditions is rated at 5.3 L/100 km (2WD) and 5.7 L/100 km (4WD). For the pure-petrol variants, the 2.0T claims a NEDC combined fuel consumption of around 8.2 L/100 km, while the 3.0T registers real-world urban figures between 11.8 and 14.5 L/100 km.
Underneath, the Hongqi HS7 rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The PHEV adds Continuous Damping Control (CDC) electromagnetic suspension that actively adjusts damping stiffness to suit road conditions. The 3.0T petrol variant comes standard with a full-time BorgWarner hydraulic all-wheel-drive system and air suspension with CDC active damping, offering 8 selectable drive modes covering terrains such as mud, sand, and snow. Russian-market 2.0T mild hybrid models feature full-time AWD paired with adaptive damping shock absorbers (standard on the Executive trim) that automatically modulate firmness according to driving conditions. Braking is handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). Minimum ground clearance is 160 mm, with an approach angle of 20° and a departure angle of 22°.
The cockpit centres around a dual-screen digital layout comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.6-inch portrait central touchscreen, complemented by a 12.3-inch AR-HUD head-up display on top-spec variants. Running on the Hongqi Zhilian 4.0 operating system, the infotainment suite supports 4G telematics, online navigation, and voice command functions. Premium audio comes courtesy of a Dynaudio sound system, equipped with up to 12 speakers. Interior creature comforts include dual 40W Qi wireless smartphone chargers, 253-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic glass roof, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Seating comes in either a 2+2+2 six-seater or 2+3+2 seven-seater configuration, with the six-seater model featuring second-row individual captain chairs with heating and multi-way power adjustment. Trimmed in a blend of genuine and synthetic leather, the front seats offer power adjustment, ventilation, and heating, alongside a driver's seat memory function and manual thigh extension. All three rows can fold flat to expand the standard 210-litre boot to a cavernous 1,847 litres, delivering immense cargo versatility.
The Hongqi HS7 comes equipped with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard across the range. Key active safety systems include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (SACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Open Warning (DOW). Hardware on top trims includes 5 cameras and 8 ultrasonic sensors. Russian-spec units receive 6 airbags, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and full Level 2 driver aids, with flagship trims adding Rear Collision Warning (RCW) and safe exit assist. On the passive safety front, the HS7 utilises a high-strength safety cage structure, earning dual five-star crash ratings under both C-NCAP and C-IASI assessments, securing "Good" (G) ratings in key categories. Battery safety in the PHEV is ensured by a liquid-cooled CATL battery pack certified to IP67 water and dust ingress protection standards, governed by comprehensive vehicle-level electrical fail-safes.
The Hongqi HS7 has seen contrasting domestic sales performance: petrol variants maintained modest monthly volumes in the double-to-triple digits in 2025—moving just 64 units in July for an annual total of 1,827 units; meanwhile, the PHEV variant maintained a steady monthly average of roughly 500 units over the same timeframe. In Russia, the HS7 carries a promotional starting price of around RM425,000, offering standard AWD and Level 2 ADAS at a price point undercut against premium rivals like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Across Middle Eastern markets such as the UAE and Bahrain, the HS7 has carved out a niche in the executive SUV segment thanks to its imposing design, commodious cabin, and intelligent AWD system. Within the automotive media and enthusiast circles, the HS7 is widely celebrated for offering unmatched road presence in the RM300,000 to RM500,000 bracket, with the 3.0T engine and air suspension earning praise among business and family buyers alike. However, known trade-offs include modest performance reserves on the 2.0T, higher urban fuel consumption, and a 5-year residual value (around 42%) trailing segment benchmarks like the Toyota Highlander (around 58%). Hongqi's total annual brand sales surpassed 460,000 units in 2025, marking an 11.7% year-on-year increase. Serving as a brand-building flagship, the HS7 retains a distinctive standing among indigenous Chinese executive SUVs on the strength of its powertrain variety and brand prestige.
